With the growth of the mobile app market, people are faced with numerous restaurant reservation apps and systems. Customers get used to search for app in App store or Google Play Market; explore a list of restaurants in a given area, their ratings based on users’ reviews, and available reservation time. Recently our team was involved into the software development for the karaoke bar. This was not just a simple software similar to variety of karaoke apps in the Play Market and App Store, the app is more like electronic menu for restaurant industry. We created app as a software to provide service for product company. Other than a venue’s location, ratings, menu, information on a restaurant and a short description of a place, the app gathered customers and restaurant employees in one system. Company hosts local server which spread data among visitors’ and service’s app. Initially app is divided in client’s and service apps, including admin system. Service provides an easy-to-use Android based point-of-sale system that allows restaurants to manage their space, accept and place orders, administer tables and deliveries, keep records of sales and deliveries, and so on. Let’s see how all of this is implemented in the application:

Creating rooms and items

Initially app implements a miniature model of the restaurant management system. In administrative panel manager sets up tables just by dragging and dropping them from the panel, adds responsible waiter (new user), creates restaurant’s menu. Here menu is divided into courses: starters, drinks, main dishes, desserts, and others. These courses, in turn, are divided into item groups. Each group corresponds to the categories of dishes served at restaurant, such as salads, pastas, and pizzas.

Accepting orders

In karaoke app restaurant managers are instantly notified about new orders placed via the company's platform. After waiter gets a new delivery, he can either accept or reject it. To place an order, user just need to tap on a table and then choose the meals ordered by a client from a digital menu. Using the modifiers waiter can specify customer orders by entering additional options. There are also notes to keep special customer requests in mind – to slice their pizza or serve their Fanta without ice, for example.

Staff management

Restaurant owners can use login pins to get better control over the restaurant employees. With login pins, employees can clock in and out of the system and access certain features. Thanks to this staff management feature, owner can track employee time, set wages, track overtime, and export these data to the chosen accounting software. With this data on hand, admin panel shows who performs best and makes the most profit.


Another solution we implemented was integrating payment capabilities, letting dining establishments automatically charge the bill to a credit card. Now the most recent trend in restaurant business using fully-integrated payment solutions when the payment is processed through a mobile app itself. Paying for the order with one tap means that guests won’t have to wait for the receipt and the restaurant will achieve faster turnover.

Loyalty programs

Similar to majority of competitors in the restaurant marketplace, app provides loyalty programs. Depending on happy hours or other options rewards may be tied to number of restaurant visits, certain types of food that are ordered, or amount of the bill. Another thing we implemented is customised notifications – for example, providing a one-time discount for a guest’s birthday and other more.

Some more things

Listening to you customers’ opinions gives you a better understanding of what you can do to provide even better service. When it comes to full-service platforms, users should be giving the opportunity to rate individual chefs and their dishes. Munchery, for example, allows customers to not only post reviews after a meal, but also directly message a chef. In karaoke app we implemented rate feature where customers are able to vote for or against waiter’s work.
